My Tour4Youth journey: Taslima

“I am grateful to the Tour4Youth project for giving me this chance. And special thanks to my teacher, Teija Nuurma, who made the whole process possible for me. The project provided me with the opportunity to train at Scandic Pori, which was a valuable experience for my future.”

Internship at a hotel offers a variety of tasks

The Tour4Youth program has gotten more graduates who have started their internships in the organisations offering traineeships through us. One of the trainees is Taslima, a tourism student in Satakunta University of Applied Sciences. She completed her traineeship at hotel Scandic Pori. We were eager to know how her internship went, so we asked her to tell us.

Scandic Pori is part of Scandic, the largest hotel chain in the Nordic region, with approximately 280 hotels and 58,000 rooms in operation and under development in six countries. Every day, more than 15,000 team members create great hotel experiences. The opportunity to train at Scandic Pori was a valuable experience for Taslima’s future.

Many new opportunities for learning

At the time of this interview, Taslima had already completed her traineeship. She tells us how she had the possibility to work with varying tasks during her internship. They offered plenty of opportunities for learning:

I worked in many sections, including reception, restaurant, breakfast service, and housekeeping. I had the opportunity to learn many new things and meet wonderful people.

Taslima felt great having the chance to help others and create memorable situations, even if it got busy, as it did in the mornings:

“In reception, I learned how to greet guests, answer phones, and assist with check-in and check-out. It was fantastic to help others and see their smiles. In the restaurant, I served with meal service, table cleaning, and ensuring client satisfaction. As a breakfast waitress, I set up the buffet, served visitors, and kept everything clean. Mornings were busy, but I loved them.

Work in the house keeping section was challenging but Taslima says providing a clean room ready for any guests was rewarding to her:

As a housekeeper, I learnt how to clean rooms, replace sheets and towels, and make the room attractive for the next guest. It was challenging work, but I felt satisfied when everything was clean and ready.

Coworkers at the training organization, project workers at Tour4Youth – they all contribute to the training experience

Many people are involved in making a traineeship possible, and they all contribute to the whole training experience.

All of my coworkers were really kind and helpful. They were always there for me and taught me with patience. I felt like a member of the team, and I thoroughly liked every day at work.

For the Tour4Youth project workers, it is so very pleasing to see a trainee enjoy their experience. Taslima sends her thank you wishes for the project workers:

“My training at the Scandic Pori through the Tour4Youth project was a wonderful event, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. And special thanks to my teacher, Teija Nuurma, who made the whole process possible for me.

To end this article, we want to leave readers with Taslima’s greetings for future participants:

The project allows young people to get job experience, develop new skills, and boost their confidence. It assists youngsters in exploring different careers and discovering their interests. The project provided me with the opportunity to train at Scandic Pori, which was a valuable experience for my future. I am glad I was a part of this event. I learnt a lot, had fun, and made wonderful memories.
