My Tour4Youth journey: Netta

“The traineeship is going really well, and I’m waiting to see how it continues… I’ve been working especially with tasks related to international affairs, social media and tourism. I’ve also been creating content related to different kinds of themed events.”

Learning the ropes also in EU issues

The Tour4Youth program has gotten more graduates who have started their internships in the organisations offering traineeships through us. One of them is Netta, a tourism student in Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, and she is interning at Aktiivinen Pohjois-Satakunta Ry / Europe Direct Pohjois-Satakunta. We were anxious to know how her internship is going, so instead of wondering, we asked her to tell us.

Europe Direct Pohjois-Satakunta is one of the centres providing information regarding EU and promoting internationalisation locally in the EU-countries. This organisation was one of the obvious choices for Netta, since international affairs is a driving interest both in her studies and future career goals. Being able to work remotely was also an important factor for her when choosing a place to intern at, and Europe Direct Pohjois-Satakunta was able to provide that option for her.

Aiming for a career in international affairs or abroad

At the time of this interview, Netta has been interning for less than two weeks, but she has already had the possibility to work with varying tasks during her internship.

I’ve only been interning for less than two weeks, but so far, it’s going really well, and I’m waiting to see how it continues…I’ve been working especially with tasks related to international affairs, social media and tourism. I’ve also been creating content related to different kinds of themed events.”

When asked what Netta hopes to learn during her internship, the answer was simple: everything they have to offer. Netta also emphasised the importance of getting to improve her work life skills. She also felt the Tour4Youth online course was a nice addition to the whole process, since it helped her to reflect on how to improve her skills before the internship.

In the future Netta hopes to have a career where she gets to work abroad or with international affairs. A career in sustainable tourism is also an appealing and interesting career option for her.

To end this article, we want to leave you with Netta’s greetings for future Tour4Youth participants:

Everyone should utilise this opportunity for this course and internship.”
