Meet an organisation

Our Tour4Youth journey: Liepaja Region Tourism Information Office

By sharing our experience and skills with young people, we in turn gain intern’s perspective on our company’s represented field. These young people will be our future tourists, planning their trips differently than how it is done now.

Young people shape the way trips are planned in the future

Tour4Youth is an international collaboration between actors from Finland, Estonia and Latvia. As a result of this collaborative working style, we are able to provide the program to youths in three different countries. One of the organizations in Latvia, that are offering traineeships, is sharing their thoughts on the impact of having an intern.

Liepaja Region Tourism Information Office is a Destination Management Organization in one of the most beautiful coastal destinations in Latvia. It offers a wide range of information on what to do, see and feel in Liepaja and its surroundings. It also actively participates in international exhibitions and workshops to reach a wide market of their targeted tourist’s countries.

Trainees bring new perspectives

The impact of having an intern working at an organization is mutually beneficial at its best:

“By sharing our experience and skills with young people, we in turn gain their perspective on our company’s represented field, which often differs because generational changes may cause us to miss significant shifts in our target markets. These young people will be our future tourists, planning their trips differently than how it is done now.

Liepaja Region Tourism Information Office is always happy to have open-minded people who are inclined towards positive communication and enjoy interacting with others. Foreign language skills and some knowledge about Liepaja area are appreciated features in the trainees. Also international work experience is an added value:

Often, we can’t adapt as quickly as our foreign tourists’ changing preferences. Observing how other countries handle these changes provides us with more opportunities to adapt faster. Additionally, topics like sustainability, accessibility, and expanding seasonality have already been successfully addressed in other destinations. We can learn from their positive experiences and apply those solutions to our own operations.”

“We also hope that in the future, our interns could become members of our team.

Show your motivation when applying for work

When applying for work, it’s important to follow the application instructions offered by the organization. Also don’t forget to show your motivation:

“Ensure your resume is up-to-date and highlights relevant experiences and skills. Write a personalized cover letter that explains why you’re passionate about the industry and why you’re interested in that job. It is always a good idea to show your motivation towards the roles you’re applying for.”

“Even if you have limited experience, focus on transferable skills such as customer service, teamwork, and communication.”

If you get called in for an interview, remember to prepare for it:

“Practice common interview questions and think about how you can demonstrate your suitability for the role. Be ready to discuss your experiences, skills, and how you can contribute to the company.”

Currently, Liepaja Region Tourism Information Office is looking for an Incoming tourism specialist for summer time (3-4 months).
